Announcement by Pro Vice-Chancellor & President
Postponement of Curtin Malaysia 2020 Graduation Ceremonies to April 2021

Dear graduates, students and staff,

Further to my previous communication on this matter dated 12 March 2020, I wish to advise that due to ongoing advice from health and government officials concerning the COVID-19 pandemic, the proposed alternate date for the 2020 Graduation Ceremonies will not be taking place.

The Government continues to take a very cautious approach to the relaxation of the protocols and this includes a continued ban on mass gatherings. Furthermore, many travel restrictions are still in place. Ultimately, the health interests of our students, staff, graduates and family members, as well as the wider Sarawak community, are our uppermost concerns.

The graduation, as well as the related Curtin Malaysia Award Ceremony, will now likely be held in conjunction with the 2021 ceremonies in late April 2021 providing all travel and other health restrictions have been lifted.

Once the date has been confirmed, we will be sure to announce it in our graduations website, through our internal communications and social media.

For graduates, more information will be sent to their Official Communication Channel (OCC) in OASIS as it becomes available. An Official Communication (OC) will be sent to them from the Graduations Office regarding registering to receive their Graduation Documents Pack either at a future ceremony or via mail. They are to read the information carefully and let us know how they wish to proceed.

Warmest regards,

Simon

Pro Vice-Chancellor, President & Chief Executive

2020 Graduation Ceremonies postponed

In an effort to minimise risk to students and staff at this time, Curtin University Malaysia has decided that this year’s Graduation Ceremonies and related events, including the Curtin Malaysia Award Ceremony, scheduled for 18 April 2020 will be postponed to a tentative date in June 2020. Once confirmed, the date will be published on the graduations website here.

This decision has been made in view of the worsening COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak globally, the inherent restrictions on travel worldwide, restricted entry to Malaysia and the State of Sarawak, but most importantly, in the health interests of our students, staff, graduates and family members, as well as the wider Sarawak community. It is also in line with the latest advice from the Malaysian Health Ministry that all mass gatherings in the country be postponed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

This postponement may be of inconvenience to some, but this is far outweighed by the benefits to all concerned and we thank all graduands and their family members for their kind understanding. As the new tentative date approaches, by which time we expect the situation to have stabilised or improved somewhat, we will be sure to keep you informed of any new developments.

More information will be sent to graduands through their Official Communication Channel (OC) in OASIS as it becomes available. In the meantime, should you have any concerns or queries, you may email our Graduations Team at graduations@curtin.edu.my.
